WHY 24/7 OEMS?
24/7 OEMS is dedicated to the total health management of your workforce. Traditional occupational medicine services such as injury treatment and periodic health exams are not adequate to enable companies to compete in today’s global markets. Industry must get the most out of its most valuable resource – their employees.
How can we assist you? It requires a comprehensive approach to managing the health and wellness of your people. With an aging workforce in the industrial setting, we look at more than just managing on-site injuries. 24/7 OEMS will custom design an on-site program that meets the goals your organizational goals. These services include pre-employment reviews / assessments, on-site patient care, case management, and health promotion.
When an injury does occur, aggressive case management from initial treatment through the entire worker’s compensation quagmire is the only proven way to control losses while optimizing health outcomes. Judicious utilization of medical resources, rapid return to work, and case closure keep your workers compensation insurance number where you want it—below the industry standard.
Improving the health of your workforce is the next step. This can be simple or more complex, depending on your needs and resources. In today’s business environment you can’t afford to neglect employee health. The payoff results in reduced absenteeism and increased productivity. It all adds to your bottom line while enhancing the health and well-being of your workforce.
On-site medical care for both work-related problems and primary care is available from 24/7 OEMS. Our health care providers are supported by emergency physicians 24/7 to ensure evidence-based treatment for any on-site emergencies. The team is prepared to manage the routine primary health care conditions that arise at the workplace as well. We do not assume the role of your employee’s primary health care provider, but we can coordinate care with them to optimize disease management and health outcomes.
24/7 OEMS will provide personalized Corporate / Executive medical services, combining first rate care with client confidentiality. Our experience in this area ranges from senior government officials to foreign dignitaries.
Our employees believe in a “safety first” approach in all aspects of their roles and are committed to zero harm to the environment when working with your organization. You’ll be surprised at how affordable high quality medical care can be. Good medicine is just good business!
Our Team

NICK WITHERS CD, MD, CCFP(EM), FCFP
Corporate Medical Director
Dr. Withers has made a career of providing occupational and emergency medicine support in remote and austere locations. He is co-founder and Corporate Medical Director for 24/7 OEMS. Twenty-two years of emergency medicine experience in rural and suburban emergency departments afforded a unique perspective of the challenges of delivering care in remote and austere locations. A proud veteran of the Canadian Armed Forces and Afghanistan conflict where he commanded the Health Services Unit, Lieutenant-Colonel (retired) Withers proudly wore the uniform for over 22 years. He had the unique experience within the Canadian Special Operations community as well as supporting several high-profile delegations including two Canadian Prime Ministers and Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II on her Royal Tour of Canada in 2010. As a senior Medical Officer within the Forces, Nick has extensive experience in occupational and preventive medicine – dealing with the myriad of unique challenges of supporting military personnel and operations.
He has translated his lessons learned from military operations to industry, where he has been the Medical Director for numerous remote industrial operations as well as other niche clients. His experience extends from Medical Directorship for many remote mining operations to consulting for Government and other agencies on a plethora of topics.
Dr. Withers is a Clinical Assistant Professor within the Department of Emergency Medicine at the University of British Columbia. Although he spends less time in acute care, he remains passionate as an educator for the next generation of health care providers.
Physicians
Physician engagement and oversight differentiate 24/7 OEMS from other providers. We invest heavily in physician services to ensure that those working in remote sites have immediate access to physician expertise. We only employ emergency medicine physicians that have the College of Family Physicians or Royal College of Physicians and Surgeon of Canada Emergency Medicine qualification to provide emergency medicine advice – sounds intuitive but many competitors use lower level providers or family physicians for this service. When a project demands less urgent consultation, we utilize a team of family physicians to respond to primary care cases.
24/7 OEMS utilizes a small team of experienced Deputy Medical Directors to ensure careful management of occupational injuries and illnesses as well as completing fitness for work determinations for new employees or those returning to work after injury or illness. Complex case management is part of our weekly cadence.
PHYSICIAN ASSISTANTS
Physician Assistants (PA) are academically prepared and highly skilled health care professionals who provide a broad range of medical services every day across Canada. This profession is particularly well-suited for employment in remote industry as they can respond to a wide array of emergencies. PAs are physician extenders and not independent practitioners. This emerging profession in the Canadian Healthcare landscape works with a degree of autonomy negotiated and agreed upon by the supervising physician(s) and the PA. A relationship with a supervising physician is essential to the role of the PA.
PAs have been a mainstay within the Canadian Armed Forces for over 30 years, providing care in some of the most austere and hostile environments around the world. We are honored to have numerous Veterans working within our organization.
Our company is committed to the highest standards thus employing only Physician Assistants certified by either the Physician Assistant Certification Council of Canada (PACCC) or the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA). Additionally all PAs will maintain currency / competency in Advance Cardiac Life Support. 24/7 OEMS has designed medical directives and a defined formulary to enable our clinicians to provide care at the highest level and with appropriate safeguards. Close collaboration with the on-call Deputy Medical Director and on-call Emergency Medicine Consultant allow for exceptional care to be delivered in the most remote settings.

NURSE PRACTITIONERS
Nurse practitioners (NPs) have proven to be a key player in the Canadian health care system. Possessing independent scopes of practice defined by provincial / territorial jurisdictions, NPs continue to deliver superb care in remote and austere settings across Canada.
24/7 OEMS believes strongly in the importance of multidisciplinary and collaborative care, bringing unique skills to the work-site.
All NP’s employed with 24/7 OEMS will have provincial / territorial credentials to ensure they meet the highest regulatory standards for their profession.
Registered Nurses
Key players in the multidisciplinary health care team, 24/7 OEMS has employed registered nurses across the spectrum of industry. From roles in complex case management, to COVID-19 screening and case management, to delivery of primary care in remote industry, RNs have been a backbone of our company.
All RNs are qualified and licensed in the province or territory of employment. Advanced Cardiac Life Support is a pre-requisite for remote employment. When on-site, RNs have access to physician back-up 24/7/365 and this permits a full scope of practice.
Paramedics
Paramedics bring a unique skill set that provides pre-hospital care capabilities to those organizations requiring temporary / mobile health care. Experts in responding to emergency situations, paramedics are employed in medium to high-risk settings to ensure rapid response to the sick and injured. With minimal additional training, paramedics can bring tremendous versatility to other aspects of health care provision in the occupational setting. 24/7 OEMS employs the full spectrum of pre-hospital personnel including Occupational First Aiders, Emergency Medical Responders, Primary Care Paramedics, Advanced Care Paramedics, and Critical Care Paramedics.
All paramedics employed with 24/7 OEMS have provincial / territorial credentials to ensure they meet the highest regulatory standards for their profession. Personnel are provided medical protocols that are reviewed annually by the emergency medicine consultant team to ensure they reflect best evidence.
HEALTH TECHNICIANS
We are committed to providing cost-effective services that utilize health care providers in non-traditional roles. Health Technicians provide an economic alternative to PAs and NPs while still enabling on-site health surveillance and screening programs. They also provide an additional set of skilled hands in the event of an emergency.
BIOMEDICAL ENGINEERING TECHNOLOGISTS

Our technologists are trained to maintain and repair a variety or medical equipment utilizing a full suite of top-of-the-line calibration equipment that is serviced regularly to ensure your safety-sensitive equipment is ready when you need it!
