This Paramedic Services Week, we’re proud to honour the dedication, compassion, and expertise of paramedics who step up when people need them most, including Michael Dunbar.![]()
Based in Barriere, British Columbia, Michael initially began his career in the pharmaceutical industry as a medical rep. After his time in the industry, he went to work at a private boarding school. Shortly after arriving at the school, a student was involved in an on-campus vehicle accident, and he was one of the first people to arrive at the scene. Despite 20 years in the pharmaceutical industry, he was not prepared to handle a major medical emergency.![]()
Michael didn’t know how to help the student. That changed everything for Michael. With that experience haunting him he made the decision to get whatever training he needed to be prepared for any emergencies in the future. ![]()
Today, Michael is a Primary Care Paramedic with 24/7 Occupational & Emergency Medicine Solutions, and currently in school to become an Advanced Care Paramedic. He’s worked at various projects with 24/7 OEMS including the Trans Mountain Expansion Pipeline, in remote industrial camps, as well as for BC Ambulance in his home community. He’s also done medical missionary work across Peru, Nepal, Mongolia, India, Thailand, and Africa.![]()
And he’s just getting started.![]()
“I really like the interaction with patients, being able to figure out what’s going on and actually help them. Being a light in many a dark day for a lot of people.”![]()
Michael’s path into paramedicine is anything but ordinary. After two decades talking to doctors about medications as a pharma rep, he knew the science but had never experienced what it felt like to tangibly help someone. ![]()
He took his Occupational First Aid Level 3 (OFA 3), bridged to his Emergency Medical Responder, then earned his Primary Care Paramedic license in 2021. He’s worked in remote industrial camps, rural BC communities, and everywhere in between.![]()
Working with 24/7 OEMS on the Trans Mountain Expansion pipeline, Michael discovered something unique about industry paramedicine: it’s less about volume and more about being ready when it matters most.![]()
When calls are slow? Michael uses the downtime to keep learning, even earning his Holistic Nutritionist certification.![]()
Now he’s pursuing his Advanced Care Paramedic licence, motivated in part by a day spent in an emergency department in Africa, where doctors were turning to him for clinical input and he wanted to be able to give more.![]()
“I want to be able to at least think at their level and have some solutions for complex medical problems.”![]()
This Paramedic Services Week, we’re proud to spotlight the people behind the patches, paramedics like Michael who bring not just skills, but genuine heart to every shift.![]()

In recognition of Moose Hide Campaign Day![]()
The Moose Hide Campaign began in 2011, when Paul Lacerte and his daughter Raven, members of the Lake Babine Nation, were hunting along B.C.’s Highway of Tears. Moved by the violence experienced by Indigenous women and girls, they created small moose hide pins as a symbol of commitment to ending that violence.![]()
The campaign reminds us that all forms of violence are unacceptable, while also recognizing the disproportionate impact on women and the importance of engaging men and boys in the work of change.![]()
Wearing a moose hide pin is a simple but powerful commitment to honour, respect, and protect the women and children in our lives.![]()
At 24/7 OEMS, we are proud to recognize Moose Hide Campaign Day and to stand with Indigenous communities in support of safety, respect, and reconciliation.![]()
