Congratulations to Camille Bihannic, winner of the 2026 Charles (Charlie) Mercer Memorial Scholarship! ![]()

Camille Bihannic began her hockey journey at 7 years old. Nobody in her family played, but it was her friends at school who got her into the sport, and she's been at it ever since. She plays defence, a position she says doesn't always get the credit it deserves: "You have to score goals, but you also can't let the other team score, and I love the role of defending the team."![]()

One of her proudest moments happened during her senior year, when she served as team captain and led her team to a provincial championship win. That victory earned them a spot at the National Championship, where they proudly represented Québec.![]()

Camille is currently in a pre-college humanities and sciences program, with hockey staying very much part of the plan. She wants to keep climbing the ranks in the sport while she figures out what's next academically. Outside of hockey, she loves spending time with her teammates, hockey-related or not.![]()

She also credits the people who helped her get to where she is today: her parents, whose support made everything possible, and her coach, who believed in her "even when I didn't believe in myself." The scholarship also means something extra personal to her too. Both of her parents served in the French Navy, so an award honouring someone who served in the military resonates deeply.![]()

In her own words: "I'm especially proud to have won this scholarship named after Charlie Mercer, a worthy representative of healthcare professionals in the military. I'd like to thank 24/7 OEMS for awarding me this scholarship, which will really help me."![]()

This scholarship was created in memory of Charlie Mercer, who served with distinction in the Canadian Armed Forces as a medic and physician assistant, retiring at the rank of Master Warrant Officer. He went on to practise at the Diavik Diamond Mine, where he was known and trusted by everyone he worked with. ![]()

We lost Charlie in March 2020, and this award, open to employees, spouses, and dependants of 24/7 OEMS, is our way of keeping his memory alive through the people it supports.![]()
